Biography and Curriculum Vitae

Julie Elliot is an artist whose mixed media paintings are an innovative combination of both painting and printmaking. She studied these disciplines at Okanagan College, completing a Diploma of Fine Arts (Honors) in 1989. Over the past 20 years she has developed a process that employs monoprints as a substructure for layers of paint and mixed media. Her work is marked by distinctive textures that have bas reliWorking in my studioef qualities. Other predominant elements include line, pattern and strong flat shapes.

Julie's ideas are realized in semi-abstract images which often utilize animals, birds and the landscape of the Okanagan Valley. Julie lives and works on an apple orchard in Oyama, B.C. and influences of this agricultural lifestyle are evident in her paintings.

Julie’s reputation has grown steadily since she began exhibiting. Her work has been shown in a variety of juried exhibitions across British Columbia. Solo exhibitions include the Vernon Art Gallery, the Art Gallery of South Okanagan, and the Kelowna Art Gallery (two person show). Her work is included in the permanent public collections of the Governor General of Canada, the Kelowna Art Gallery, UBC Okanagan and the District of Lake Country.
